Welcome to Pocket Demos!

Role: UX Research and UI design

USER RESEARCH

I started by sending a Google Form to all of my musical contacts with crafted questions inspired by some of my own experience with songwriting.

User demographics:

  • Mostly moderately talented musicians, but technical users have an interest too

  • Education, profession geographic location, and age range

  • Familiarity with existing DAWs, but require way less features to accomplish simple demos

Understanding my user base lifestyle helps me empathize with how they might engage with my app.

additionally, I researched the expected user flow, requirements, and problem points

USER PERSONA

Compiling my Research revealed the important characteristics of my users, and their respective needs

Problem Points / Requirements

  • Intuitive to non-musicians to use without sacrificing features

  • Accessible and unassuming Iconography, text, and animation

  • Streamlined, simple user flow, but with layers of features professionals would expect to use

User Flows

Flow 1: Musical Notes

Sing and play an instrument, and Pocket Demos captures your lyrics and chords for you, presenting them to be edited or exported to a team

Flow 2: Looping and digital instruments

Arrange your recorded song by looping instruments over your recorded track, or starting fresh. Use the key and chords captured, or start custom. Loop instruments in categories to create an intro, verse, chorus, or any section you like

Quick Wire Frame

Pocket demos does most of the work behind the scenes, so a simple “notes and memos” like interface is all that is necessary for the user experience

  • List of songs

  • recording song page

  • lyrics and chords

Agile Design Sprint: User Flow 1

Lowfi design

Early Prototype

Continueing Itteration

As this project continues to gain traction, I am working consistently on adding the rest of the DAW-like features, which will include a looping station, digital and midi instruments, live recording, and sampling.
